Workshop for the design of university AI charters
Claudia Roda and Susan Perry led a workshop for a group of institutions in the AMICAL consortium on designing university AI charters tailored to each institution’s unique context and teaching and learning environment.
The workshop employed a design-thinking approach, beginning with participants identifying core elements from their university’s mission and values that fundamentally shape learning and classroom experiences. Participants then examined AI’s effects, both beneficial and detrimental, on these foundational missions, values, and educational practices. Through this collaborative analysis, actionable policies and guidelines emerged that could form the basis of each institution’s charter.
The workshop materials provided each participant with a foundational draft to advance their university’s AI charter development. We plan to analyze all collected materials for discussion at an upcoming meeting, where we can explore possibilities for shared inter-institutional policies in greater depth.
