Educating for Responsible AI: Human Rights as a Foundation
In this short webinar organized by the Alliance for Data Science and AI (ADSA), Professor Roda discusses fundamental competencies for data science and AI programs. She argues that graduates must be empowered to design technology that effectively contribute to shape the type of society they want to live in.
Professor Roda says that the challenges of current technology (bias, lack of explainability and transparency, generation of misinformation, etc.) have existed for a long time but they are amplified by the current design and use of data science and AI. The human rights framework is a lens through which analyze technology impact on society and address its challenges. This requires a set of competencies that goes past the learning of advanced mathematical, engineering and software competencies. It must address the whole system life cycle (including hardware and software), address infrastructure, supply chain and environmental impact, and cover the basis of regulatory systems.
