Self-made books for disadvantaged children
Supporting the right to education of disadvantaged children through story telling
This project explores the use of AI to ethically and effectively develop a digital storytelling platform for children in low-income communities around the world. The work is the result of a collaboration between FirstBook and The American University of Paris and it was generously sponsored by a grant by John H. Lewis Jr. Faculty Development Fund.
Most of the design and development so far has been completed by Eli Hinson, Professor Roda’s research assistant.
This project is part of our work stream on “Alternative Software” aimed at collecting and developing software outside the mainstream tech industry. The collection will provide a curated list of software that people and organizations can use to replace, at least part, a tech pipeline they currently do not control. The development will provide real world examples of “ethical” pipelines.
