{"id":330,"date":"2025-01-03T23:16:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T23:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unesco-chair.aup.edu\/?p=330"},"modified":"2025-08-20T23:30:30","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T23:30:30","slug":"charters-on-the-ethical-use-of-ai-in-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unesco-chair.aup.edu\/?p=330","title":{"rendered":"Charters on the ethical use of AI in higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amicalnet.org\/\">AMICAL Consortium<\/a> &#8211; a group of of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amicalnet.org\/members\">28 American\u2010modeled institutions<\/a> in 19 different countries across<br>Europe, Central and Southern Asia, the Middle East and Africa &#8211; this project aims at defining a set of charters on the ethical use of AI in higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each university charter will be distinct, benefiting from on-site knowledge of the best means to support the use of AI within a context that protects students, professors, staff and the larger university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this first phase the Chair has worked at refining the suggested principles for AI in education (<a href=\"https:\/\/unesco-chair.aup.edu\/?p=332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">originally presented<\/a> at UNESCO&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/weeks\/digital-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digital Learning Week<\/a> 2024) that will form the baseline for these charters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several UNESCO&#8217;s documents have been instrumental for the definition of the basic principles and will guide the development of the charters, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/articles\/guidance-generative-ai-education-and-research?hub=32618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guidance for generative AI in education and research<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000376709\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI and education: guidance for policy-makers<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000391105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI competency frameworks for students<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000391104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI competency frameworks for teachers\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Preliminary consultations on the Charters have taken place with Jeff Gima, Director of the AMICAL Consortium, and Rukhsana Zia \u2013 Director of the Center of Learning and Teaching at Forman Christian College and Convenor of AMICAL&#8217;s Campus-level AI Initiatives Interest Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unesco-chair.aup.edu\/?cat=45\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Related posts<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the AMICAL Consortium &#8211; a group of of 28 American\u2010modeled institutions in 19 different countries acrossEurope, Central and Southern Asia, the Middle East and Africa &#8211; this project aims at defining a set of charters on the ethical use of AI in higher education.
